We’re building a transparent digital marketplace that customers can trust. And it’s the same at CarNext.com. We’re proud of our open culture, collaborative ethos, vibrant environment and can-do approach.
As we grow our business, we’re keen to hear from people who understand what we’re about and can help us achieve our mission. We’re looking for hands-on individuals who are ready to build from scratch and love to drive change.
We offer unparalleled opportunities to be part of something special. Come and join us!
I joined CarNext.com team in June, 2019. I looked at the website and at the product, and I liked what they were building. After my initial conversation, I realised that they were shipping new releases every two weeks, so I thought this would be a very dynamic environment to work in. I also felt the company offers a lot of opportunities to grow and to learn from senior colleagues, and CarNext.com itself is growing really fast. It’s always very motivating to feel that you can contribute to that growth.
I’m a front-end developer; and this is my first experience of the automotive industry. CarNext.com is disrupting the way the industry works, and I saw the way it’s selling cars and helping customers was something quite new. I don’t even own a car, but I thought I could learn something. I also thought CarNext.com had a very strong position in the market, despite only being present as a brand for a year. That’s what attracted me, and I wanted to be part of that journey.
A lot of people who work at CarNext.com are technical and engineers, so there’s a really strong engineering background. Older companies can potentially face legacy issues, whereas at CarNext.com there is no legacy, which is a great thing for engineers.
I have been working on our showroom website, where people can go and buy a used car. There are a lot of visual features and animations. I enjoy building new software from scratch and seeing these products reach the end customer – that gives a lot of satisfaction. I can see the impact right away, because we deploy things every two weeks. Every two weeks there’s an introduction and they are facing the customer, and we do a lot of AB testing so we can see how the changes impact the customer.
The team I work with is really helpful. Since I joined, they have made sure I got up and running quite fast. It’s a very proactive environment, very entrepreneurial. You come up with things yourself and you contribute. I think we are ‘can do’ people, definitely. I have good collaboration within the team, and feel free to speak up.
As the company grows, it’s important for us to look back and see where we are. Are we doing the job well, and how can we do maybe even better? Looking back to reflect on where we’ve come from will only help us to grow more.
To me, there are a lot of opportunities to actually do stuff and build things from scratch. And it’s not just about momentum – there are a lot of things coming up, as well.
I joined CarNext.com in January 2019. My background is in consultancy, and for a few years I’d been doing consulting in the automotive industry in Europe and the US, where I have delivered mostly digital and customer experience projects.
A couple of things made me decide to join the CarNext.com team. First, working here offered the chance to be part of disrupting the automotive industry from the inside. We’re taking a front-row seat in changing the business of selling used cars. Another thing that appealed was that this company really is digital first. Most automotive businesses focus on the traditional offline journey, but at CarNext.com, digital is the DNA of everything we do. Also, we’re able to make the decisions and steer change. Those things, combined, were what made me decide to join.
The work environment is also very dynamic and growing fast. Officially we’re not a start-up any more, but we still feel that start-up culture, and that drives energy and brings the best to me and other colleagues. We want to develop and grow.
In the automotive industry, in the next five to ten years, things are going to change at a very fast pace. Mobility is going to look completely different in ten years. Everything around the customer journey, including buying and leasing cars, is going to change. For me, CarNext.com offered the ability to make an impact. I wanted to take ownership within a digital company over a piece of business, and currently I’m working in two areas: on the e-commerce flow, enabling consumers to buy a car completely online; and on creating a digital partner experience and digital solutions for outside partners.
Priorities can change quite quickly, and we need to be able to handle the changes of direction. That’s one challenge. Another is that being a young company growing in a large space, we’re aware that growing to a larger size can detract from nimbleness and simplicity. We should still be able to find each other: me walking over to marketing and getting an answer quickly is part of our future success.
I find it exciting to be part of disrupting the industry. When I told my previous company I was going to CarNext.com, two colleagues told me they bought cars there and really liked the experience, and the simplicity of the process. I want to make sure that in one or two years from now, this is very common, and people feel confident in buying a used car from CarNext.com online. I very much feel proud to be part of a brand that wants to make the world of used-car buying reliable.
I joined CarNext.com last March. Previously I was working as a retail development manager with a US-based automotive company starting up in Europe. I was asked if this opportunity at CarNext.com would appeal to me, and after a couple of conversations, I said yes, because to me CarNext.com is at the beginning of something new and something great.
At that stage, last March, what CarNext.com, was doing didn’t exist yet, not on a large scale. CarNext.com was set-up to become a disrupter in the marketplace, and change something in the existing market. I was being offered a strategy position, one from which I could give input into building something from scratch.
We are growing and growing, but we are also flat as a team, so we can very easily provide our knowledge and skills to improve and structure things. My insights and ideas are listened to, and for me that makes a big difference.
With my team, we are rolling out CarNext.com’s retail delivery stores throughout Europe. These are physical locations, where we are delivering cars: currently we have 34 in 22 countries. We aim to have about 40-45 locations by the end of this year and we know that is ambitious. The challenge for me and for my team is that real estate needs to run 12 to 18 months ahead of the music, and currently as a business we are figuring out the type of music we like. It’s hard to know exactly how big the sites need to be, and we don’t know all the terms and conditions, but we do need to perform. So we are working to make the best of that challenge.
All the things I’ve learned in the past are things I can implement here. I’m on the learning curve in implementing. Working in other start-up environments, I’ve learned a lot, and now I can put those things into practice.
I have seen impacts: some can be written down; some are just felt. When I came to CarNext.com, no one was focused on real estate or retail development in bricks and mortar. At that stage, everyone was focused on the digital platform, the development of the website – those kinds of things. That was the environment I stepped into, and the open field was what attracted me; what pulled me in.
It still feels like a start-up environment. We have levels, but we don’t really confine ourselves to a certain description of a role. We all know we are in a group together and this is something we have to do. The progress we’re making can be unstructured, so the people who enjoy working here are hands-on. We see the opportunity and we see the empty field, and instead of waiting for something to appear, we create something. It feels extremely dynamic.
The exciting part is that when I wake up, I never know what’s going to happen at work. The moment I think I’ve got everything under control, it evolves. I get excited about changes: in role, strategy and direction. I like that. It keeps me alert and it keeps me alive, and it’s what’s on my mind when I wake up.
With our money-back guarantee, open history and fixed pricing, we’re already bringing big changes to the existing market. For my team, it’s about finding the right location for the right money and then building with the right planning. We’re making sure that whenever sales need locations, they will get the keys at the moment they need them. As CarNext.com changes the market, we’re facilitating the tools.
When I tell people I work for CarNext.com, they don’t always recognize the name, but I feel that in a couple of years, that’s going to change. So there’s the excitement of knowing we’re going to become a known brand.
One of the most positive things about CarNext.com is that it’s an open environment with people who are engaged and motivated to build something from scratch, and who have the mindset to do so.
I can describe our operations department, in a short sentence, as “making the online offer possible offline”. As CarNext.com is a technology-based company, the operations department makes sure everything happens offline with the actual car. We guide car journeys, with the end-to-end flow of vehicles being processed as they come from our partners and others.
In the used car market, CarNext.com is highly disruptive. I haven’t seen any other company doing what we’re doing at this scale in Europe. I’m excited about working here at CarNext.com because growth is all we hear, every day. Once you join the company, you’re going to be in an environment that changes rapidly and brings a lot of opportunities along the way. If you like being involved in different projects, and want to do things fast, then this is the right environment for you.
Openness, being fast and being motivated – those are major points that are definitely part of the mindset here. If you find challenges within the company or with processes, or with anything you’re developing, you’ll find great partners within the company who have this same mindset, and can help you achieve what you need. It’s a mindset that energizes the company.
I’ve learned a lot in a short period. We’re trying to set up something completely new, but some things we’re setting up aren’t yet alive in the industry. For example, a project on the transport and logistics side can make total sense within the company, but the industry is not yet on a par, or at the digital level we’re working at in CarNext.com. So we need to make sure those messages are being received.
What I enjoy at CarNext.com is building something up from scratch, being disruptive while doing that, and making a difference. It’s about working together to achieve results and seeing this happening every day is what keeps me excited.
